"Alba Casthouse achieves 5M hours without LTI"

On our travels throughout the industry we have the opportunity to visit many facilities. We are always interested how companies go about facilitating an environment where safety flourishes. On many of plant tours we get the opportunity to speak to workers about safety related topics. We have toured and spoken at Aluminium Bahrain several times over the years. We are proud that they are in our industry. This is great story.

Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the Bahrain-based international aluminium smelter, announced a major safety milestone as its Casthouse successfully achieved 5 million hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) on 05 November 2017.

A celebration was held on the same day to appreciate the Cathouse employees, which was attended by Alba’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) Ali Al Baqali, Chief Power Officer Amin Sultan, Chief Administration Officer Waleed Tamimi, Director of Casthouse Abdul Rasool Ahmed Abdul Rasool, Manager Legal Stephanus Grobler and other officials.

Applauding the employees’ safety efforts, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray, said:

“At Alba, we believe that all work-related injuries and illnesses are preventable. This is a significant accomplishment for us and testifies our unwavering commitment to safety and health practices at all times. I congratulate the Casthouse teams on achieving the Safety milestone of 5 million working-hours without LTI and urge them to keep- up the safety momentum.”

Alba, in line with its 2017 Expectation ‘Safety TomorrowLand’, continuously maintains safety awareness campaigns all around the year, through the weekly Monday safety hours, safety talk before each shift, annual or department-led SHE Week, safety reviews and observations, site visits amongst others.

The Aluminioum Plant Safety Blog congratulates the employees of Alba on reaching this milestone. We have visited hundreds of plants around the globe. As we look back many of our visits blend together. But there those that standout and distinguish themselves from all others. We will not list those companies that are so special for fear of alienating someone. But, we can state that if we did make a list Alba would most definitely be on it.

Keep up the good work. The world is watching and can’t wait to see what you do next.
